Stop the Negative Chatter

Do you have negative chatter in your head? I'm not good enough, I don't look good in photos, nobody likes me... What can you do about it?

Many people have negative chatter in their heads. Negative chatter can consume us at times—I’m not good enough, I don’t look good, nobody likes me—and if we’re not careful we can get stuck in this mindset and it can show itself in worry, anxiety and fear. But there are ways to stop the negativity.

  • First, it’s important to recognize that you have these thoughts. Be aware of when you are thinking negatively so you can take action to combat it. Then take action to stop the chatter:

  • Do an internet search of ‘I am’ affirmations or look on youtube. You can get specific by searching for your particular challenge: Money affirmations; Health affirmations, Relationship affirmations, affirmations for women… the list is endless. You can search for ‘short affirmations’ or ‘10 minute affirmations’ if you’re short on time. You can also find affirmations that are hours long if you choose to listen while you fall asleep at night.

  • Commit to listening to the affirmations. Listen to short affirmations while you’re getting ready for your day or getting ready for bed. Put on a longer affirmation video to fall asleep to and let your subconscious mind soak it up.

  • Be consistent. Listen to your affirmations at least once a day. You may even choose to write or journal your affirmations since some people are visual learners. Find what works for you so you stick with it.
