1

You may have heard friends talking about Bone Broth or seen it on social media but did you know just how good it is for you? Not only is it easy to make in a crock pot but the benefits of drinking it are numerous. There’s too many benefits to mention here, but here’s some of my favorites:

Health Benefits of Bone Broth

Strengthens your immune system- bone broth is loaded with good-for-you nutrients like protein, minerals like calcium, phosphorous and potassium, which helps move nutrients into cells and waste out of cells immune system. It can also help to heal disorders like allergies, asthma and arthritis.

Better sleep- the glycine in bone broth has been shown to improve sleep.

Promotes healthy skin & reduces cellulite- The collagen in bone broth helps form elastin within skin that are responsible for maintaining skin’s youthful appearance and can reduce wrinkles and decrease puffiness. And BONUS- you may see a decrease in cellulite due to the skin firming effects of collagen!

Improve gut health- bone broth can help seal holes in intestines and ease chronic diarrhea, constipation, and even some food intolerances.

Dogs love it- All the benefits we get from bone broth, our fur babies get, too. My girl Sammie knows the smell of the bone broth and sits patiently in the kitchen til it’s ready for her.

Stores sell it, but YOU can make it better!

Yep, you can buy bone broth at some stores but they won’t have all the amazing benefits as your homemade version. It’s so easy to make AND you not only get the bone broth, you get lots of shredded chicken and dog treats, too. I got my chicken at Trader Joe’s for around $14 and this will make a LOT of meals and broth for the humans plus yummy healthy treats for your fur baby!

How to make crock pot chicken, bone broth, chicken and dog treats

Ingredients:

• 1 whole organic chicken
• 2 tsp sea salt
• 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

How to make it:

Step 1: Rinse the chicken and pull out any innards from the cavity and discard. Place chicken in crock pot, cover with water and add the salt. Let cook about 6- 8 hours til meat falls off the bones.

Step 2: Use a slotted spoon to pull the meat from crock pot. Pull all the good meat off and save in a container in the fridge, put bones and ugly pieces back in the liquid. Add about 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (this helps pull all the healthy collagen from the bones) and cook another 6-8 hours until bones crumble to powder when pinched between your fingers. I usually start mine in the morning, pull the meat off then let it sit overnight.

Step 3: When bones are tender, strain broth and save the bones and ugly meat for your fur baby. Store broth and dog meat/treats in fridge for up to 5 days.

Step 4: (optional) I like to pick the bigger bones out and save them in the fridge as treats for my Sammie. And for a convenient way to store your fur baby treats, and so they last longer than 5 days, spoon the bone mixture into mini muffin tins and freeze. When they’re frozen, pull the tray out of the freezer and let sit out for about 5-10 minutes and they’ll easily pop out with a knife. Store them in a baggie in the freezer and give them to your dog frozen or take a few and keep in the fridge til defrosted. My Sammie loves them frozen but she also loves the defrosted treats mixed in with her food. And if you don’t have a dog, your neighbor’s dog will LOVE them 💕
